Spark

I just came across this interesting project.

The project’s rules are simple. Writers send artists a story or poem, and artists send writers an image of their painting, photograph, or sculpture. During the ten-day project period, each person uses their partner’s piece as a jumping off point for new work of their own.

SPARK Rounds take place in February, May, August, and October and are open to all.

I figure it's another good way to get my artwork out there.

Amore Adumbration

I created this newest piece as a Christmas present for my girlfriend. It is based on a sketch she did when she was in college. I took most of the elements she had in her original sketch, and added my own style to it.

Found this little article online.
There will be multiple platforms. There will be free exhibitions spaces for a number of unrepresented artists that will be vetted by a committee of art professionals. Additionally, there will be approximately 50 galleries who exhibits and support emerging artists and a number of non-profit organizations as well. (e)merge will have a strong cultural component including educational programming with panel discussions, lectures, tours, and all kinds of fun performances and events as well.

(e)merge – Washington, DC – September 22nd to 25th 201

20x200 Submission

As we see it, there are a lot of people out there who want to sell their art and a lot of people who'd like to buy it. They just have a hard time finding each other. The internet is the perfect place to bring those people together, and we're exactly the right people to make it happen. We're passionate about art and the internet at 20x200. We're really excited about creating a place where almost any art lover can be an art collector.

We introduce at least two new editions a week: one photo and one work on paper. Most are available in three or four sizes. When we first launched, the smallest size was reprinted in the largest batch — an edition of 200 — and sold at the lowest price — $20. Hence the name 20x200. (We say it: "twenty by two-hundred." 200x20 just didn't sound as good.) We also offer 11"x14" editions of 500 for $50, 16"x20" editions of 20 for $200, 20"x24" editions of 50 for $500, 24"x30" editions of 10 for $1,000 and 30"x40" editions of 2 for $2,000. We may occasionally offer editions at other sizes and price points. Usually, the original artwork is also available so let us know if you want the one-and-only!

Every single print is delivered with a numbered certificate of authenticity that is signed by the artist, the artist's bio and statement, and instructions for caring for your print.

In the mean time, here are our general submission criteria...

Ellen Million Graphics FANTASY ART SHOP Submission

http://www.fantasyartshop.com/

A complete source for fantasy art and stationery products: Dragons, Unicorns, Mermaids, Fairies (or Faeries!), Phoenix and other creatures of magic and wonder on Stationery, Cards, Bookmarks, Prints, Coloring Books, Mousepads, Stickers, T-shirts, Purses, Magnets, and much more.

You may contact me by email at ellen@ellenmilliongraphics.com. I generally have a bit of a backlog to get through - I am one person answering ALL email, so the plus is that you get a personal, actual response, and the minus is that is sometimes takes more than 24 hours to hear from me. I take weekends off to keep my sanity. I have a spam filter, and recommend using the form below to avoid it - or at least to put something relevant and personal in the subject line; Hi Ellen doesn't always cut it - spammers like to use those tricks, too... try 'I'm an artist and have a question' or 'Coloring book order from EMG' as good ways to get my attention.

I just submitted an inquiry to this site. It was referred to me from a fantasy artist. I do have numerous fantasy related images that I think would work well with their format.

McGaw Graphics

I like that they were upfront, and said that my style is not within the demographics.

Russ,

Thank you for your interest in our company. I was able to take a look at your samples and although your work is lovely and surely has its niche in the art world, it isn’t a style we can currently use to fill the needs of our customers. We base much of our artwork choices around the requests of our customers as well as on current trends in the marketplace. We feel that we would not be successful in finding the appropriate venues for your work with the client base we have. I encourage you to continue pursuing representation for your artwork and wish you luck in doing so.

Thank You,

Well they seemed to have looked at my work and enjoyed it enough to keep me on file.

Hey Russ,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. My Team and I have been on the road for the last couple of weeks. Anyways, unfortunately we are not taking on anyone right now for representation. However, your work is very detailed and we will keep you in mind if anyone is looking for your style of painting. Thanks for your interest in Blazing Editions and good luck. Keep painting!

So far I have submitted to:

I do wish you success with your efforts.

Portfolio on CD

Since a lot of places require a CD portfolio to be sent in as part of the submission process. I just wrapped up the finishing touches on my own. Some places are specific about what type of files to send, and others were vague, so I figured an all in one CD would work. I've included a PowerPoint version, a PDF file, and a clickable HTML mini-web portfolio. Also there is a text information file, that can be opened in most notepad software, as well as a folder with standalone images. I think that should cover everything.

Below are some examples of the files.

This is for the PowerPoint and PDF.

This is a sample of the standalone image.
Basically a low resolution file of my 11" x 17" prints.

Fairfax Art Fairs

Okay so far I've sent an email to the Fairfax Authority and an admin for the Spotlight Festival. The booths are roughly $100 which is more feasible being a starving artist, then the $250-$500 some places are asking.

Held each April, Spotlight on the Arts features three weeks of music, dance, theater, art and choral concerts. Sponsored by the city in cooperation with George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College and City of Fairfax Schools, Spotlight on the Arts events take place at venues throughout the city, university and college locations. For information, visit www.fairfaxspotlight.org or call 703.352.ARTS.

Fall Festival
Annually, the City of Fairfax Parks & Recreation Department sponsors a Fall Festival held in historic downtown Fairfax on the second Saturday in October. This popular event begins at 10 a.m. and includes arts and crafts, ethnic foods, children's corner, rides and musical entertainment. There are more than 500 arts, crafts and food vendors participating in the festival. Entertainment and children's activities also are provided. Attendance is about 35,000-45,000. For information, call 703.385.7858.

Holiday Craft Show
The third Saturday and Sunday of November are reserved for the Holiday Craft Show. The craft show is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run. This event features a variety of seasonal arts and crafts with more than 200 vendors - plus a visit from and photos with Santa Claus. Child care is provided. Attendance is about 8,000-10,000. And Another One!

Dear Russ McIntosh,

Thank you for contacting me. I did look at your work and find it very interesting.
You may not know but I have not been taking on any new artists for quite a long time.
Most of my time is spent managing both my own website and artline.com & artlinePlus.com
You may want to join artlinePlus.com
This is the site for the greater Washington DC area. We add your name with a image and link out to your site.
Then we add a banner or thumbnail from time to time with more links to your site. The annual fee is $150, payable in advance.
If you want, I can send you a contract.

Best,
Jane Haslem

Oooh, a rejection letter with the opportunity to pay her to join an online community! Seriously?!
